I'm cutting my hair off. I can't hack growing it long, I hate it and then when it gets long enough I just leave it in a ponytail 24/7 like a rocker dude anyway. Not entirely sure what I'll do it it...an updated version of an A-line bob, probably.
I need to find a stylist that won't try to bouffant me. They LOVE to make my hair big because my hair is all shiny and megapornstar if I don't flatiron it. Angles, straight lines, jagged edges! Gimme goth hair or give me death.
I don't know anything about flat ironing. Drop a sista some tips? I have super fucking curly ridiculous Shirley Temple hair and I only keep it straight in the front by having a few dreads, but I know that won't be a style I can rock forever. The last hairstylist I went to (circa 20 years ago) told me that if I ever ironed my hair, it would break and fall out. Help!
That might have been true 20 years ago, but I flat iron my hair every day and have for a very long time and my hair seems to do just fine. I'd just get a pricey iron with ceramic plates, no metal. Burns less.
HAHA no. It's just wavy and has natural parts in unfortunate spots in unfortunate directions. It's not curly. When it's long, it's mostly straight. But it does like to get glamorously big. lol
As far as I know I am as white as it gets (Scottish, English, Irish) but have ridiculously straight, super smooth dark hair. Inevitably every stylist I've ever had will comment about my "Asian hair". I've always wanted to get one of those DNA tests and see if I have some secret azn buried somewhere in there.
A lot of my friends flat iron and go on about how jealous they are of my natural hair, but really, I think it's too bland and would kill for a little texture. Grass is always greener and all that.
Do you have shoveled teeth? Do you get drunk easily, and get very flushed and/or mottled across your cheeks and chest when you do? Those can be relatively reliable indicators of Asian ancestry (or Native, but anthropologically speaking they're pretty much one and the same.)
Haha, sorry, that was the first thing that came up from a Google search. Basically, if your teeth look like this: -- see how they are really thick right at the gumline? They kind of look like little shovels. You should be able to feel that when you run your tongue across the back of your teeth. That is a pretty good indicator... and also, flared cheekbones, I just remembered that one.
Whoa, that link was really interesting, thanks! I have every one of those physical characteristics, except possibly the retina thing & breast bone since I'm not completely sure what they're describing.
Wow, you're pretty. And I can definitely see a hint of Asian or Native ancestry in your cheekbones and eye shape and color. I have no idea what the retina and chest things are, either, it's the first I've heard of that, but that doesn't mean they aren't legitimate.
Physical anthropology is really fascinating. You can just about trace all the migrations that your ancestors have ever made in your bones. I have become kind of a skull geek since I started learning about all this, probably because my ancestry is kind of a mystery too.
You know, you could always embrace the big hair thing in a slightly more controlled manner.
I'm a big fan of ultra-short in back but long and chunky on top. My trouble is that my hair won't defy gravity without a lot of product. If yours has a tendency to be big anyway, you get a lot more drama out of that sort of style with a lot less effort.
Then again, bobs are classic, and no ones hotter in them than you.
I really liked your hair in some of the pics you took of you and David a few years ago. It was red and kind of a mohawk (shaved all around on the sides) but you could wear it down and hide that it was a mohawk if you wanted to. I thought it was pretty bad ass :)
